Nightsong

In the moonlight, shadows dancing,
Flitting ‘twixt the ash and yew,
Cricket-song floats soft, entrancing,
Through the forest's silvered blue.

Zephyrs wander by, caressing
Leaves that hang from oaken limbs
And with quiet tongues confessing
Tales of awe and faerie-whims.

In the grasses whisper – listen!
Earthen spirits whirl and croon
Round the blooms, whose petals glisten
Laced with dew and kissed by moon.

Luna soars, her crescent canted,
Smiling softly in the sky,
While I close my eyes, enchanted
By this midnight lullaby.

Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Fair maiden, from forth thy satin tongue flows honeyed mead,
Intoxicating odes of beauteous rhyme in wondered awe I read.

SykeFyre-
Pretty gosh-darned terrific !
It just works softly for me.
I, too, am 'enchanted' by this
'midnight lullaby'.

Kess, this is by far one of the most fluid and poetically hypnotic works I've read in some time.

Denise:  Thank you so much, as always.  You are a shining star in my night.

Mike:  WOW!  I think the reply is as beautiful as the poem -- I am flattered!

Marge, Munda, Martie, Meadowmuse (the four "M"s -- LOL) -- thank you so much, all of your poetry has been an inspiration to me.

Bad Boy -- ya never know, I have been known to venture outdoors in the buff too -- see my post "A Memory," in Prose -- LOL

Christopher, leave my bootie outta this!  LMAO!     (No, seriously, thank you my friend, you know my moods LOL)

Ruth -- 'twas your approval most of all I sought, as 'twas your line inspired the poem -- thank YOU for a fine challenge!

Bal -- TY, I do what I can.  YOu're not half bad yourself, for a Floridian!

This is exquisite Kess. The rhyme and meter are perfect, the imagery intoxicating
.....one of the best I have read here.
