Beyond the door of metaphor I strolled amongst some old debris. And sat where used to be a tree. I stared into the misty air, But there was nothing really there. There was no house of warm appeal. Not even a tree of special feel. The lonely path showed lonely still. And the loneliness made me ill. But memories played the scene anew And time reeled back without a cue. Faces, moments, all were there. Every scene, a scene to stare. Who can view his life once more, Without the wish to change the core? But wishes cannot change the die, Of anything, that has gone bye. It's over now and I am here. And everything that I held dear, Is gone. The house, garden, the tree. And most the lonely path, to thee. Invisible, except, in metaphor. But God how clear I see that door. |

I, too, have visions of the past Of kindly times that didn't last That tree, that house, familiar places In memories I see those faces Now misty-eyed for times gone bye I dwell there often with a sigh My heart near breaking to the core My lips are praying, 'just once more' Along that path where I could find The best of times that were so kind. Beautiful, heartbreaking poem, Seymour. Well done. Denise |

Would had I but known though lifes forces shown through yon past's door, I would not have flown so high, so long gone, but have lingered a little more. Thank you Sy. You have once again inspired me onward. Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Oh Sy....I love old places to sit and think. Your words weave so well together and bring the picture so clear. Thank you I don't buy temporary insanity as they murder defense. Because people kill people. That's and animal instinct. I think breaking into someone's home and ironing all their clothes is temporary insanity. |

This is going to sound insane, but I guess that goes with my whole image around here anyway ... *g* ...but this reminded me of a children's book that I still adore -- "The Giving Tree," by Shel Silverstein. A lovely story of unconditional love, and not knowing what you've got until it is gone ... This was truly moving, Sy -- if it tells you anything, I still cry when I read that book. ![]() --Kess Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |

And such a metaphor you've employed here. There is much to be said for resolve, but how difficult it can be, indeed. The lonely path has turned 'round and is once again a memory...so sad, and so well conveyed. ![]() |

I know I wrote this reply once before. But your poem made me do it. They say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I can see the door your looking at oh so well, decribed through your words so real. The old dark wood I feel. So well, I want to knock. I'm running out of excellent, very good very nice, but you know I'm a fan of your poetry. The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |
