. The last thought to form before goodbye will not recall the lover's kiss nor mark the dappled shadowfall of bright September days nor recognise the metal taste of blood beneath your tongue Neither newsreels nor slideshows achievements failures money possessions friends nor anything you've had. The last thought will be the "didn't do" - not the failure. The unacknowledged plan. The incomplete. The dream. The arms outstretched and the empty palm. The goal left unattended for a better day that never came or came and went. The last thought will be of almosts while the lump that beats in your throat sinks to your heart and death dilutes you. < !signature--> Kevin "Poetry is, at once, what you get... and how you got there." very well put and vivid... two thumbs up sincerely, jerome the boy with no brain A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

Kevin- So much truth in what you write. Your soul shows in this one for sure. And if we only realize it ... each and every soul is reflected in your thoughts. Sure sits home with this lady tonight. My appreciation for the sharing. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Whew! This one is right on the money. It's not the failures we regret....it's the attempts we didn't make. There is nothing quite as bad As the simple phrase "I wish I had....." Good writing. |

Thank you! & Marge.. we are related in the dim dark past. Tindal is not a common name and somewhere in antiquity my ancestors and yours spelled it the same way. I was born a Tyndall. I'm a Taylor by adoption. ~ Kevin "Poetry is, at once, what you get... and how you got there." |

"Footfalls echo in the memory Down the passage which we did not take Towards the door we never opened Into the rose-garden" T.S. Eliot This was very well done and so familiar I went looking for this quote. I like the way you write! |
