Zeroes
Swift drones escort
The Heavenly Wind
Over the Philippine Sea
Gods free from human desire
Pride of The Rising Sun
The Divine Tempest
Seeking, Searching,
Hunting

To die for the Emperor is to live forever
Aftertaste of sake
A warrior’s sash
A warrior’s death
Keep the plane steady
A warrior’s sash
A warrior’s death
Death is light as a feather
To die for the Emperor is to live forever

Targets
Sited below
Backs to the sun
In tight formation
The Heavenly Wind descends
To die for the Emperor is to live forever
To die, to die, death, death
Light as a feather
But duty is
Heavy as
Lead

To die for the Emperor is to live forever
Is that flak?
My escort is
Flaming debris
Death is light as a feather
But duty is heavy
Heavy as lead
Steady, Steady
To die for the Emperor is to live forever

Descending
Diving, diving, steady
Death is light as a feather
Death is light, heavy, too
Steady, steady, flames, blood,
Follow the tracers, follow the tracers,
To die for the Emperor is to die
For the Emperor is to live
I’m dying.  Steady, steady
Follow the tracers
Closer, closer
To die

WOW!

This defies every introspective piece I have ever read -- I could feel it all happening at light speed, in the space of an instant!  And what a twist at the end -- slipped it in there while I wasn't looking!  There is a fine line between honor and folly, and dead is dead no matter what ...

Thanks everyone.  I've learned quite a bit from all of you (reading your work even if I don't comment everytime).  Kess, I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean by your reply but it is clearly a compliment.  Thanks.

P.S.  Check out the new title, btw (Senior Member -- heh-heh, beat you to it, Kess).

Indeed you did, my friend -- but then how many of those 500 were actually POETRY?

hehehe

You started it!  ;OP

Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes;
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange...

Kess:

10:1 Total Post/Originating Post ratio here, dear.  I guess I'm a giver.  Granted, you have written TWO double sestinas to my ... er ... zero ... but, hey, the point is I got to 500 first (neener, neener, neener ... sound familiar?).    And the vast majority of those where Philosophy Forum diatribes and Critical Analyses ... whew!

Come to think of it, YOU started it with the neener, neener, neener stuff in Nan's classroom, getting me in trouble with the teacher!

P.S.  I'm working on my first personification work now ... look for it soon, substitute teacher lady.

First - This is quite an exceptional poem... You've captured a devastating moment in history quite artfully....

Now - about your comments - Jim and Kess... If you can't behave out in public, I'm keeping you both in for recess... Stop your bickering... Jim... Get that double Sestina written... Kess.... um... is all your work done again??? Stop picking on Jim and find something to do then......
