I found Puff The Magic Dragon,
A Mickey Mantle Baseball Glove,
A Teddy Bear my mother gave me,
Boxes full of love.

My Attic's just a refuge,
For memories gone bye,
Going through these boxes,
Makes me want to cry.

Balladeer seems to find,
Subjects near and dear to me,
It's funny how his thinking,
Brings back such memories.

I guess that's why I love him,
Not just his wit and rhyme,
It's as though he knows how,
To read my simple mind.

I don't post too many poems these days,
Have nothing much to say,
But I read most everything,
That you all post most everyday.

My life's been very turbulent,
You would think much differently,
If you knew the real Toerag,
And what I used to be.

This place is much like therapy,
I read and learn and think,
Like the "Attic" Balladeer has written,
And the memories his wisdom brings.

There's nothing simple about your mind, dear one... and your own poems are often therapy for those much in need of laughter. I thank you for those.
I thank you also for those poems that bring tears not of laughter but from a heart that's been touched... such as this one.
I wish you only good memories, dear friend... for you give me so many! Big hugs... and lots of smooches!

Oh Toe...I didn't know you had a serious side!
This was absolutely lovely!  hehe  I'm still looking at your photo of your "skill" in wood whittling!
I thought the deminsions were fine BTW.  I don't believe you were too far out of proportion...    If I were a tree, that's how I'd want to go!  So many talents in just one man?  whew.....(wiping brow)

I came in for a by-play
on Toe's sarcastic wit to watch
but instead saw a man say
he'd been taken in by 'Deer's "touch"

with words, with charm, all unarmed
our very Toe had become undone,
remarkable, isn't he, folks,
to honor truth, and then some.

[Good one Toe! Likes me a lot!]

Toe, you are so good at touching hearts in one way or another--so glad to see you!

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

Toerag, I don't know you like the others do here, but I know a poetic soul when I stumble over one. This poem? Simple, poignant, smile~inducing. Thanks

Well, I opened this poem only after putting on a suit of armor with my explosive-sniffing dog sitting next to me. I went through it word by word, line by line, analyzing....knowing that hidden somewhere in these seemingly innocent words, poisonous thorns were hidden aimed at causing me to writhe in pain and abuse....and I finally found it. You have written a decent, sincere poem! What a dastardly trick!! You knew I would be looking for a booby trap and you played it straight!!! Is there no trusting you????

btw, excellent job

Toe-

Tucked away in the attic
I'm pleased to say ...
is a man who takes the time ...
to set a smile in play.

So go back to the attic,
look under the big box pile,
you'll find a ToeRag doll,
who placed upon my face ...
this great big smile !

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR
~THE REAL TOERAG~ !
Priceless.

Hey there buddy ol pal! Ol Balladeer has a way of making one think don't he? hehe
You know you keep mentioning the person you used to be, and it's just that Toe. Who is past is not who is NOW. You are a different person and I think I would think the same if I knew your past or not!
Hugs and the same of your poetry! hehe I love it!

Thank you all for the kind replies,
They mean so much to me,
It almost makes tearful eyes,
(Or else I need to pee?)

Seriously though I thank you,
You're all so kind and sweet,
And though 'Deer' is such a charmer,
He'd best not mis-place his armor!

Yo Toe: Well looky there... straight forward and sincere without a single thorn to prick our old Balladeer.  Do you have a temp my friend? Hmmm... Nope... just the other side of the Toe shining through.  Nice work here buddy.  Take care of yourself.

And ah Toe?... did you all know that experienced tree climbers use rope and tree spikes on the side of their boots to get to some of the higher reaches... just thought you might want to tuck that thing away should there be any lady lumber jacks about... Nan and PPF time to put the pictures away
