AN ODE TO ANURAG

Anurag!
I feel you in the presence of my mind,
and in the softness of air that surrounds me.
Wings of hope, gently caress my broken heart
and lift my fragile soul,
from the dungeons of despair.
Your smile wipes away my tears,
as your laughter breaks the shackles that restrain my dreams.
Your hands are open
and beg for trust.
I tremble as I reach out.
Words choke on past attempts
and the fear of pain grips my heart.
Am I ready to leave the sanctity of this place?
Lonely, yes but predictable and sure!
Can I melt the ice I am trapped in
enough to allow vulnerability to exist?
Can I truly stand the pain
of having someone throw my heart back at me
saying they don’t want it any more?
Oh! Anurag, how wonderful you have made me feel!
How alive I am when I am with you!
How frightened I am to continue!
Anurag can you wait for me?

No, not easy whatsoever. Matter of fact, many times it is displaced or unidentified  fear, manifesting in sometimes negative or misunderstood behaviours. You've done well to examine and express it!

While I acknowledge my inability to write free verse, I admire those who can successfully express themselves in that form,
which you have very successfully accomplished.

You definitely meet all the requirements for an ode -- and surpass them!

Thanks everyone for all your kind feedback.....although not much of my work talks about love......those that do I hope speak as honestly about it as I am able......
