The pieces of a broken heart
Lie scattered on the ground.
While teardrops roll right off the cheek
Not making any sound.

I didn't think I'd feel this way
If you were ever gone.
But I hear my heart now saying,
Maybe I was wrong.

A sad reflection I did see
When I saw the closing of the door.
Overwhelming was the sadness
When I realized you'd be here no more.

So tonight I sit here all alone
With just a pen in hand.
Trying to find the words to write
To make you understand.

I guess sometimes we don't realize how important someone is until they are gone. Beautiful poem, Eloise.
