By happenstance musings entwine In juvenescent day. A meld of minds yielding combine Of staid and impish way. Ensuing years directions verge, Yet visions' focus sound. Thence come about in tidings merge Seas drink of life's abound. Next generation's kin to pledge Sodality in pact. Parturient of others' fledge In nonage seasons past. From Heights whence unsung souls were bore In friendship's staunch avow, Like Cobblestones from paths of yore, Enduring bonds endow. ~~ For Cobb - my colleague and dear friend of 35 years~~ [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 03-30-2000).] |

Hi Nan, This is my first poem of yours, so I do not know if you chose the form and language purposely to have this maturing/youthful effect to harken the bonds and days in the past. But it works beautifully, form and language fitting muse. Such a lovely poem with a love of nuance in language and love of life. Well accomplished, IMO. Just an afterthought note, the mood this has put me in is one of looking at what's important in my life. Rus P.S. I love a poem that sends me to the dictionary |

Indeed, what a "soothing" read this was. A pleasurable flow and mystical essance. You've got a real good one here, Nan. Michael |

I agree with you Rus! This poem had the same effect on me! Well done, Nan! Denise And slight is the sting of his trouble Whose winnings are less than his worth; For he who is honest is noble, Whatever his fortunes or birth.~~~Alice Cary, ~Nobility~ |

What a way you have with words--the sound alone is mesmerizing. Wonderful poem! |

Nan, A wonderful poem although, The winds sweep fair the cobblestones. But I doubt the young hear old bemoans. *L* Sy |

"Seas drink of life's abound" Only six syllables, but an ocean of meaning locked in there (if you'll pardon the pun). I agree with Michael -- this floated like a song. What a warm tribute. --Kess You cannot choose the way of your death, but the path you choose will determine its own end. |

Words I never heard nor seen Yet the message is so clear I have to agree with all above You write so well and flowing Well done Ps: And I have learned something too The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

Thank you my friends - This was really fun to write. I was visiting Cobb's classroom the other day, and I was inspired not only by the fact that he loves poetry, but also by the endless memories I share with him. He got me into an awfully lot of mischief (never mind)... He's also one of those friends who doesn't notice when years have passed since that last capricious excursion... It could have easily been just a few days... Interestingly enough, our daughters are now best friends... and that lighthouse is located between Falmouth Heights and Wood's Hole - the "old stomping ground," so to speak... Your sagacity may preclude us less erudite to feel your poetry passes the perspicious test, however, there is no doubt of your sapience and profundity. (but what the heck, even Kansans can see this is great poetry) [This message has been edited by Mike (edited 01-16-2000).] |
