I Lied |

I came in off the highway To have a cup or two... ‘Twas January weather, The sky a leaden hue... A cowboy, and a drifter Running from my past Not knowing where I headed I desired to get there fast. You’d call it chance meeting- There’s no doubt in my mind. An innocent young waitress You know they’re hard to find. I thought I’d love and leave her And Heaven knows I tried... But fate had other plans for us She soon became my bride. I told her we would settle down And peacefully abide- With family and friends around- I’d be close at her side- We’d have a home and raise some kids And hold our heads with pride.. I guess I promised her the moon- The truth is..that I lied. I lied about the home we’d have And how I’d settle down. Behind the sun which smiled on us There lived a frosty frown. Her joy would turn to sorrow Her smiles would turn to tears And only by the grace of God- We’d make it through the years. Clouds of hurt and anger- Overspread our skies... Betrayal, accusations.... And multitudes of lies... But somehow we’re together And smiles break through the tears Peace pervades our lives again And calms uncertain fears. For years I vowed I’d leave her And Heaven knows I tried.. But after twenty six long years I’m glad to say I lied. Visit My Home Page http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |

Oh, this is great!! I, too, loved the ending!! So sweet! Denise And slight is the sting of his trouble Whose winnings are less than his worth; For he who is honest is noble, Whatever his fortunes or birth.~~~Alice Cary, ~Nobility~ |

Well, give her some roses! I'm glad you lied too! 26 years is a long time, I'm sure you can stick through the rest. Always a pleasure to read your work! <*\\\>< Where there is faith, there is love. Very nice Gun. I have to agree with the others,I too am glad that you lied. I congraulate both of you for working thru the hard times. It`s to easy to give up,but it`s always more rewarding to work things out. Good luck to both of you for many more years to come. [This message has been edited by SnglDad (edited 01-16-2000).] |
