Oh my goodness. How sad that the tragedy continued to span generations. Really heartbreaking, Nan. |

Thank you. I do feel the gene for depression and other maladies are genetic. This is not a surprise to me. I read Slyvia Plath's poetry years ago and it was very obvious she had deep problems at a young age. life becomes unbearable for some and we can never understand what they go through unless we can live in their mind. late |

This is incredibly sad news, for he had so much to give. I would love to have seen his pottery. Nicholas used to spend hours researching fish behaviors not far from my home on Chena Hot Springs Road, just outside Fairbanks. He was well liked and respected, a truly gifted biologist. I have included an article from the Fairbanks News Miner, written by my favorite Fairbanks reporter Dermot Cole. [URL=http://www.newsminer.com/news/2009/mar/23/nicholas-hughes-son-major-poets-emerged-prominent-/] Somehow, my link isn't underlining, so I hope you can get to this page. You can go directly to the Fairbanks News Miner and there is a heading that takes you to the story. [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (03-25-2009 07:11 PM).] |

That is so very sad. One does wonder if it's genetic or just so heavy on the survivers minds that they follow. Thanks for sharing with us. Rae |

Thanks Nan, I watched the movie about her and it touched me deeply, seems Hughes drove women crazy, if you read, the woman he left Sylvia for also gassed herself and their child. This is sad that her son did what Sylvia tried to protect him from when he was an infant...just delayed for 46 years. ~ARh |
