No tears will bring you back, but I cry for your spirit anyway, which was taken from you today in an act of violence.
You were only 16, sitting in an English class.
You did not deserve what happened to you today.
I also cry for your family.
And for all the students at Platte Canyon High, Colorado...may you remember her always,
not as she died, but how she lived.

* Tragically, another shooting at a high school. The gunman is dead, but so is an innocent 16 year old girl. I edited out the full names, as some family members may not have yet been notified. (its barely 6pm here, 5PM in Denver area, she died around 430PM, less than an hour after being shot in the head by the yet-unidentified gunman) Much of the current media news still talks about her as wounded, but Emily died right after she arrived at St Anthony's.
The message? Hug your children, tell them you love them EVERY DAY, even as you send them off to school. I don't wish to sound morbid here, but school...it ain't what it used to be when I was a teenager.

Kacy, I watched this unfold on CNN when I was notified by another Pip member.
I feel so badly..they did not mention that she had died,
just that she had been air-lifted to hospital.
This kind of situation just has to stop.

I saw this on Google news; but only that shooting was occuring; at that time, there were no deaths, no casualties, but I remember say aloud, "oh no, not again!"

And people said, "what?"

I am saying "what?" again, too.  Why, How, could this happen again?

I will await the news, once more.

Emily had a twin brother, Casey. He has got to be devastated, as is the entire family. All she did was go to school, she was in a college prep English class, and didn't deserve this to be her epitaph. It is scary these days, knowing that all those emergency drills and safety measures can only go so far...this should not have happened. Apparently he went on campus wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a backpack...standard apparel these days. Most schools do not have metal detectors in place, or any kind of security measures to prevent this kind of thing. The most they have is drills and lockdown procedures, as did the Platte school, "code white" and maybe that saved more from being killed. For Emily, there will be no more school days. For her twin brother, only tragic memories.

Absolutely tragic! My heart goes out to her twin brother and the rest of her family and friends.

My daughter is a teacher and the stories she tells me, are incredible! What's this world coming to! Like you, I never heard of such violence happening in schools when I was a student.

Love, Peace & Harmony,
Linda

"but school...it ain't what it used to be when I was a teenager."

I completely agree with you.

I was so frustrated. I am watching the coverage of the school in horror and sadness.....then all of the sudden.......they stop the coverage and go to Terrell Owens interview with the media. Ok I do love the cowboys, however, Terrell is ok and once again the media jumped the gun with him. But to stop the coverage just because of a misunderstanding is beyond me.

Aside from that my heart and prayers go out to the kids, school and families.

Such a tragedy, and it still is unfolding. In spite of the identifying and death of the gunman, that community will have a very long healing process ahead of them.
From the depth of this mother's heart, I wish them all a great healing.
And no less a tragedy, comes news from Chicago, that a 5 year girl died from a routine dental visit gone terribly wrong! Shaking my head at this, and my fist at the so-called benevolent mighty power who does NOT protect the innocents.  Enough said. There is no justice in this world, and I don't believe there is a next.
