Why the kids in this neighborhood think I'm Dr. damn Doolittle, I'll never know. Ok, I've got 3 baby robins, though the kids swear the smallest is a crow...lol. They appear to be about 2 days old??? Little bit of fuzz on 'em. It's been years since I tried to feed one of these little things myself. Any suggestions? |

happy fathers day! you natural nurturer you! ![]() Seriously, get in touch with the local pet store or Audubon chapter, though few people are sucessful with rearing two day olds. I kept four robins alive for three days then the neighbor kids took over feeding overfed them 'till they looked like balloons. I think I used mashed up moistened cornmeal, can't remember. |

yes! the chef is on the right nutritional track and as for the feline? she won't miss that small bite good luck, if you lived closer I'd help out but as it is, its a ridiculously long drive BTW, canned soft dog food or cat food is what some rescuers have used (beef being preferred for robins) frequent small amounts is best or catch some worms and feed them from the end of a toothpick or straw then try to get the birds to a professional rescue group if there is one in your area |

Go out and dig up the worms or pick the catapillars from the bushes, maggots will do too. I used to have a book about raising all kinds of young animals, I'll see if I can find it in this mess I used to call my home LOL Everything is moving couple of times a year, due to the rebuildings. Dog or cat food will do for the time being and egg yolk is good too as I remember. Nice job you've taken on, but don't be too disappointed if they're not going to make it after all to adulthood. By then you'll get the problem that they're not used to find their own food. You must give them what their mother would've fed sometime, otherwise they won't know it's eatable. Good luck Doc Duncan. Like scattered leaves...my words will flow |

My little brother was Dr .Doolittle when he was younger, and was ALWAYS rescuing one damned thing or anohter. He was able to sucessfully raise a nest of baby birds on babyfood meat dinners mixed with uncooked grits. That was the vet's suggestion at the time, and they eventually flew off to raise their own. Duncan I am still remembered fondly as the "bird lady"...for some reason. I used nesting food mixed with water...you can get it at pet store. Use a dropper....as I recall many times a day. Dirty Bird lived quite a long time in that way....and wait until you feel the love when they think you're the mommy!! Good luck! ![]() |

Grits??? I should've known. ![]() They're doing alright at the moment but I know their chances are slim. At least the little critters won't go hungry, huh? Thanks again everyone..... |

Good luck to you and your baby peepers Duncan. Wish I had an answer but I've never been able to raise a thing except eyebrows. |
