Dear frinds at PIP,
I'm requesting that everyone who can pray for my wonderful mother-in-law, Annamae Kephart, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. She had been having abdominal pain for about 5 months and her physican wanted to do a CT Scan but the insurance company would not aprove it so they were treating her for ulcers. 2 weeks ago this Sunday she ended up going to the ER and a CT Scan there showed two large masses in her pelvis, fluid in her abdomen and fluid in one of her lungs. She will have radical surgery at Magee's womens hospital in Pittsburgh on November 6th. They will remove both tumors, her ovaries, her cervix, the fatty tissue that lays below the diaphram ( beneath the lungs), lymph nodes and if needed part of her bowel. After that they will do chemo but the prognosis isn't good. She is a caring, giving person and one that most people refer to as "the nicest person I ever met" and I love her like my own mother. We are heartbroken and worried beyond compare so please hold her in your prayers.
Hugs
Ruth

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

Ruth,

Your mother-in-law is most definitely in my prayers and thoughts.

As she comes through this, you will want to follow up on:

"but the insurance company would not approve it"

and if I were you, I would contact an attorney now...there is no reason whatsoever that if your doctor did the right thing in wanting your mother-in-law to be tested properly, and timely...you know what I'm saying.

Email me if you have any questions.

In the meantime...Anna will come through this well. She sounds like a feisty woman to me...and I'm probably reading between the lines...but if you admire her, that tells me a LOT.

How very sad.  Right now I'm asking our Lord to watch over her and give strength to each of you to help her through whatever she will face.

I've been wondering how you're doing?  Have your problems cleared up, yet?

What an ordeal for her ~ and for those who love her. One thing that is definitely in her favour, is the love and support of her family. Knowing that is sure to give her the strength to get through these difficult times.

God bless her! ~ and you!

Thank you all for your prayers. My mother-in-law ended up going in for emergency surgery 2 weeks early. The doctor removed a tumor the size of a football that extended from her liver to her spleen on the top of her abdomen, her spleen, 2 tumors the size of fists in her pelvic area and 5 liters of fluid from her abdomen. He feels certain he got 98% of the cancer and all the lymph nodes looked okay. He staged her ovarian cancer a 3 C ( just under stage 4). She had some complications after the surgery including 4 liters of fluid needing drained off her lungs, a blood clot under her left collar bone, and filling up with 40-50 pounds of fluid ...so much that her hands looked like she was wearing boxing gloves and was unable to bend her fingers. She spent for days in the ICU and the remainder of 2 weeks in a step down unit but is now home and making progress every day. She has lost 42 pounds of fluid so far and still has a bit to go. She is week and walking with a walker but gaining each day. With 6 rounds of chemo coming up each three weeks apart she still has a long road ahead but her prognosis is good. Rodger and I and our family thank you for the prayers

Just an update:
My mother in law completes here last of 6 chemo treatments next week. She is down 70 pounds from her normal weight but doing well for now. She was told last week that the chance of reoccurance is greater than 70% in the next 3 years and if it reoccurs it is much harder to treat the second time around. As for now we are taking things day by day and praising God that we have this time at all to share. Again, thank you all for your prayers

UPDATE 05/24/08

My mother-in-law finished up her 6 rounds of chemo and another CT scan revealed a spot on her liver and a collection of fluid below it so she is undergoing another 3 months worth of chemo. She was looking forward to being done with the chemo and this set back has really wore on her emotionally. Although she has very little nausea with the chemo it totally drains her. Please continue to hold her in your prayers, especially praying for the emotional and physical strength needed to face another 3 months of chemo treatments.
Thank you,
Ruth

Dear Ruth....it's so hard to watch someone you love, go through so much.  My mother had ovarian cancer and I remember.  My thoughts are with you all during this time.

Oh, Ruth, that had to be devestating after all she's been through.  Please tell her this prayer group is really rooting for her.  May our Father in heaven help her through to a healthful ending.

God bless each of you,

Update 5/28/2008

The doctors now want to put a port in to give the chemo through as now they are saying she may need to take chemo for up to an additional year. Her mental state is not as good as we'd like to see and she is refusing to give them an answer at this time about the port. She "wants to wait until after bible school" as she has offered to help teach as she does every year.
