![]() Monday is Canada's Thanksgiving and this year especially, I am just so thankful for all those I have in my life here at home, and those I have met through the internet. I am thankful for all the simple pleasures I am allowed to enjoy and never take for granted. After an acute year of unrest in this world, we as a family are just so thankful as Canadians that we live in a country of peace and freedom, where a sense of equality exists for all. If I could have one wish this Thanksgiving it would be to sit everyone down to one table, a table of peace. I hope you enjoy your dinner, friends, and family and when you break that wishbone, maybe we can all wish for peace in this world. I would like to extend to all the Canadian members of Passions in Poetry a very memory-filled, heartfelt Thanksgiving, full of joy, love, and a sense of peace. Let us give thanks for all that we tend to take so freely for granted, and rejoice in having each other. ![]() ![]() |

Happy Thanksgiving...I thought it was the day WE were all to be thankful for our Canadian friends...I know I am glad to know so many wonderful people there. To me there is no border though. You are all just friends that live farther north than anyone else! ![]() |

Check out the link below. Now those are darn scary numbers, and only one helping? One bun, and no squirts of whipping cream shots from our annual whipping cream can fight? Ah, who cares, it's only maybe what twice a year we do this? Those are very scary numbers as in my word that is two days meals ![]() And Sharon, thank you for your kind wishes and endeared friendship always - and YES, I am cooking it! ![]() http://www.jeannepasero.com/calories.html see? ![]() |

May all my Canadian friends have a bountiful feast of gratitude. ![]() Now tell me, is it like turkey and stuffing there? I'm curious about the menu. grin... Here's my typical menu: We start with 3 meats-- Turkey (for tradition) Roast (for dem dat hates turkey) Ham (because ya GOTTA have a honeybaked spiral cut!) add appropriate gravies for all of the above Yams 2 kinds of stuffing, sometimes 3 (oyster dressing, because we can, and a cornbread dressing with shrimp and squash, if there's a third, it's a wild rice thing) Broccoli, dripping with hollandaise I like to have Asparagus too cranberry sauce (alas, canned, because fresh is rare and expensive--we can't have EVERYTHING) ![]() mushrooms, sauteed baby corn and carrots peas (don't know why, nobody ever eats 'em) and pies pies pies last, but certainly not least? banana pudding! *groan and burp* So what's for supper, Canuck? ![]() |

The holiday actually prevents me from being able to see my beloved for yet another long stance ![]() But I hope you all have a happy turkey day! I always wondered though... how do you know when the Christmas season starts? Does it start this Tuesday? Does it start the day after OUR thanksgiving? When are the Canadian Holiday Blitz sales?!? Since it's possible I'll be residing there someday, I need to know! I LOVE the Day-After-Thanksgiving blitz sales (AKA-Death to all who stand in my way!)! Oh, make me Thine forever |

Good gracious Serenity! That sounds like a buffet at a country club! Holy calories! I can't speak for anyone else up here in Canada, but I am cooking the dinner and having it tomorrow for my family. We enjoy the leftovers on Monday (just tradition.) So here is our Bill Of Fare for din din: ![]()
Now for the best part ... I spend the day with my family and after dinner we go to a movie! I do the Martha trick to the turkey too, decorating it under the skin with whole spices in a design just to show off, and heck they just "eat it up!" ![]() |

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! ![]() Serenity and Sharon ... those menus sound fabulous! ![]() We're pretty simple on our end, with some of the basics ... but ohhhh, it's always so yummy. Turkey, homemade cranberry sauce, savory dressing, to-die-for-gravy, mashed potatoes with sour cream, baby carrots, peas & corn, yellow butternut squash with brown sugar, and always, always, my mom's homemade buns ... plus real pumpkin pie and cherry cheesecake. Yummmmm! PS ... Hey Erica, no worries. The Canadian Christmas season already started a few weeks ago ... the stores are already geared up and advertising! I think they move it ahead one week each year, rofl! And Boxing Day Sales are huge to boot! ![]() |

For Nan before I forget: Orange/Cranberry Sauce: ~ Soak the zest of one orange, one beautiful orange slice, and your cranberries in a 1/2 cup of "whatever you are drinking but I prefer cognac or brandy," and 3/4 cup of sugar or honey for about an hour or so, while you are obviously got something else to do right? ![]() ~ Bring 1/2 cup of orange/cran or orange juice from that orange you mutilated ![]() ~ Completely cool it - it will thicken honest, and when you serve it - top it with that lonely orange slice and a tad of brandy, light it, and stand back for those ooohs and ahhhhs! For Kit - time is of the essence here today - we need those lights in the tree so we can see where to climb up when we sleep in it next year, and as for gravy - Todd and I had mastered the art of engineering a hole and tunnel to steal 1/2 of all the gravy before anyone got it - then he had smart kids ![]() Erica - let me know when you need to go shopping, I love to shop! To All of you other kind people and to RON especially, for making us all friends, thank you and may you always have the love of family and friends in your life. |

To be honest, I am still stuffed and it is after midnight. What is worse, they left me one of their children! Actually she's my buddy, so we will have fun tomorrow playing. Serenity, the entire cheesecake was demolished, and here is the recipe for those that would care to try it. Pumpkin Cheesecake Crust 1 Tbsp. soft butter 1 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans 1/4 cup graham crumbs, cornflakes, or ginger snaps 2 Tbsp. sugar, 2 Tbsp. melted Filling 4 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup sugar, 5 eggs 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice 2 tsp. brandy, if desired 16 oz. can pumpkin or two cups prepared Directions 1. Heat oven to 350°. Butter 9-inch spring form pan. 2. In medium bowl, combine pecans, breadcrumbs and sugar. Drizzle melted butter over pecan mixture; toss to combine. Press into bottom and up sides of pan, refrigerate. 3. In large bowl, beat the cheese at medium speed until smooth and creamy. Beat in brown sugar and sugar until smooth. At low speed, add eggs one at a time, beating just until blended. 4. In small bowl, combine flour, spice brandy and pumpkin, and mix well. Gradually add to cream cheese mixture, beat until smooth. Pour into crust lined pan. 5. Bake for 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 1/2 hours or until center is set. Turn the oven off but let cake stand in oven for 30 minutes with door open at least four inches. 6. Run sharp knife around edge of pan. 7. Cool to room temperature on wire rack for another 30 minutes then remove sides of your pan. 8. Cover, refrigerate overnight. Enjoy this plain or with a topping of: 1 cup sour cream, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, and either whole pecans or crystalized ginger strips for a garnish. |

Outside of enough leftovers to make up 6 containers of turkey soup, they dug into that table like vacuum cleaners! It was heaven to watch! Now it is our "Northern Hemisphereians's"turn down in the United States soon. ![]() And...while I have this box - never in my life have I seen anything like Halloween in the United States of America, it is truly AWESOME! |
