How do you find the time to write and post 3 or 4 poems a day? |

I've written 3 to 4 poems in 16 years, and let me tell you, it took a lot of concerted effort! I write 3 to 4 prose pieces a quarter.. but 3 to 4 poems a day boggles me mind! Abrahm Simons "In a moment lies eternity And in a kiss resides forever" - Krista Knutson my bestest friend! |

I haven't a clue how. I'm lucky if I post 3 in a month or two or three. I did get a rare glimpse the other day when I actually wrote 2. |

PoetdeVine~ I MAKE the time ... as my poetry is so important to me. I usually write between 3-6 poems per day and find myself getting inspiration from early dawn until the wee small hours. I sing the thoughts to remember them if I'm where I don't have the opportunity to pen them immediately. I have a little muse that rides in my car so time to and from work is not wasted either. I am fortunate to work for a company where I have the opportunity to write if I can squeeze it in ... and I usually do. Evenings and weekends are my 'power poetry' times ... I spend hours and hours writing all of the thoughts I've had during the week. I read a lot of the poetic works of other authors and get even more inspiration from them. Most of my poetry just flows to the page fairly effortlessly and usually I find that I don't need to do much in the way of 're-writing' the content. I do take time to 'arrange' them in a format that I find pleasing. I've written several thousand poems and enjoy sharing them with others. I think the key is that I 'make' the time and it rewards me with poetry to fill my senses. Thanks for asking ... I know that I replied to this thread before and then my response 'disappeared' into thin air. The entire thread disappeared from my access and I'm pleased to have found it again. Thanks, Sharon .... enjoyed the question. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Well, back before I put all my things, including my archives, in storage with XAngel, I could always copy out something from there, if my Muse was on haitus. But nowadays, that crutch is gone...unfortunately, so is my Muse, at least for the present. The last things I wrote were for Sharon's challenges in Adult, back during my bus trip in early May. For some reason, I've not been able to write a single thing while I've been here. I've had some talks with my g/f (her family is allowing me to stay with them until I get my apartment) about this poetic impotence. She seems to thinks it goes back to wards placed on the house when her family first moved in. Irregardless of the actual reasonings, I find it impossible at present to write anything either poetic or inspired, and I'm having great difficulty even writing letters. Hmmmm....the sooner I can save up enough for rent and deposit, the better. Writing has been such a constant for me for so long that the lack thereof is very unsettling, like a clock softly slicing rashers of interval from the bacon of time, gently ticking in the velventeen hush, granting background sound...then stopping. I agree with Marge...You have to "make" the time. When I make time, I can easily spout out 2 -3 poems a day...? Sorry. ![]() |

well, my poems have thier own schedule, I have written as many as 3 in a day, or should I say they have written themselves...and yep, I have to make time for them, when they pop up, or I get no peace, course that is usually when my mind is reeling and just won't be still, searching for something and poetry be my search engine...sigh....and today for me is another monday morning with not a poetic thought in my head...plenty of time though ![]() |

I go through periods of time where I can't even sleep because of the words rushing through my head. During these times I can write 4-6 poems in a day. But, those times are very, very rare. On the norm I average 1-3 poems a month (or less- lol). There sure is a lot of work in keeping "natural" talent in working order!! ![]() ![]() ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... I find it easy, make time, right a few words or lines down etc. BUT perhaps my poem is simplier and doesn't show the depth of thought that other's do??? Well that is me ![]() I'll tell you this...... Yep. Gotta make the time. Most of my pieces start with a single stanza which i immediately write down when it hits me, then later i will take the time to sit and try to create something worthwhile built around it. As to churning out 2-3 daily... at times it seems no problem and at other times I find myself completely uninspired... Who knows why that is... |

I think the answer to this question depends on two things: how you define "poem," and by what standard you judge the writing of several in a day ... First (and this is where I will get the boo-and-hiss, I'm sure), in MY opinion (important qualifier, here -- flag-wavers take note!), some of what I read here does not meet my definition of "poetry," at least not in the strictest sense. In fact, some of what I have written myself has been a stretch to meet that standard ... When I pen a "poem," I feel that I must consider not only content, but the structure and delivery of that content -- else it emerges as only a gaggle of words, hardly suitable for posting on a poetry board. Even in free verse there is some need for structure, but delivery in that case becomes more important: I saw a beautiful star in the sky is literally, the same as saying In oceans spreading there above of shadows tightly-woven, there winked in silverness a flame In challenge to enfolding Dark ... But the second is obviously more descriptive (though I can't vouch for the poetics -- LOL -- lectures are rather uninspired for the purposes of verse). The best analogy I can think of is that the difference between good poetry and bad poetry is the same as the difference between the novel and the Cliff's notes ... (IMHO) As far as my second point, the few times that I HAVE posted more than one poem in a day, they have been a long time in coming -- I didn't just sit down for an hour and say "Hey, I think I'll write three poems" and BANG! More often than not, they come from ideas conceived many days or even weeks before, and have been mulled over for some time ... so are they really the work of a day, just because I happened to type and post them in the same 24-hour span? I think not ... Of course, Sharon, you most likely refer to those persons who do so on a daily basis, in which case I refer you to my first point above. Sorry, but rarely -- no, make that never -- have I read a piece by such a "prolific" writer that inspired me nearly as much as the periodic words of a poet who takes the time to develop his verse before laying it before me ... well i adore the minimalist approach and hence all my latest writings are short in length....perhaps these poems are easier to write? i ditto the rest... you have to make time for it...when inspiration strikes, i just leave everything else aside cos its rare that my muse comes to visit and i must utilise that moment ![]() |

Well if you look in my history of posting you'll see that i basically post 2-3 poems a day in teen. Where do i find the time? I just devote my life to writing. I have school...i write in school. I chill at home.....i write at home. I go out to them all.....i write in the mall. Anything i do and anywhere I go is a place i have, at some point in my life, written at. That's how I do it........how do YOU do it? ![]() I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them! |
