The lame duck President has made some changes. What do YOU think? WASHINGTON -- President Clinton announced that there are now six more designated national monuments (mostly in the western U.S.) that will protect more than a million acres of land from being used for commercial purposes. The new monuments are located in Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Michigan. One of the sites is Pompeys Pillar near Billings, Montana, a sandstone column where Clark carved his name (in 1805) while traveling with Lewis on their historic trip to the west. Another site, Passions in Poetry, was designated as the most well run Forum on the Internet. The sites owner, Ron Carnell, also has been named Ambassador of Love during February. Statistics revealed today show that Mr. Carnell’s site has millions of visitors a year – all with no charge to them. This is considered the first national monument that doesn’t have an admission fee. The monumental announcements were made in the same room in the White House that President Jefferson used to go over maps with famed explorer Lewis before the journey. |

Monument? Protect more than a million acres of land? That settles it, I'm going on a diet. You do have an imagination, though, and this amply demonstrates your delightful touch with fiction. They did a little story on 20/20 last night on John Stosil's (sp?) "Give me a Break" on the monuments ... lol ...
