Lost the best dog I could ever hope to know today. Been suffering from lymphoma for a month or so but generally felt pretty good due to the daily steroids prescribed by his vet. Woke up this morning to very difficult breathing and took him to the vet. Listening to his heart and lungs, he diagnosed blood clots in the lungs. He died in my arms only a few minutes later. No dry eyes around here today.

Pete

I understand, have gone through this with my beloved cat Mizar. It is heartwrenching.

Watch out for your dreams. Your dog will visit you, trust.

To be there and letting him feel your love while he passed on was a big comfort for him, even if it was almost unbearable for you.

Love and comforting hugs.

I can certainly feel that pain, as our pets are so loyal and loving. Loosing a pet is never easy.

Oh Pete. I'm so very sorry I missed this on the 3rd. Please forgive me?

When animals love humans? That is very special indeed. But when the animals garner a love from humans? THAT, my dear friend, is when magic is involved. Animals don't need to love us...but still, they understand the involvement better than most humans do. We cannot do without one another in the long range of plan. God's plan.

Sending heart hugs, Pete.

Understanding your loss Pete, my daughter and her 12 year old son just lost their pet Rottweiler in almost the same way. They were as equally hurt as you. Hugs to you, latearrivl

Thanks everyone. Although we had some time to prepare, it's still awfully hard. One quote comes to mind, "your dog is the only person who loves you more than he loves himself." Wish I knew whom to attribute that to.

That is sure the truth!  It works both ways too.

Sorry to hear this, Pete.  Our pets should have life expectancies to match humans, don't you think?  Keep him in your heart.  He'll always be there.
