Paging Dr. Freud (what does it all mean?) |

I thought this might be fun--I had a dream that made me wake up laughing--quite literally. So I thought I'd share it with you all, in hopes that you all can tell me what it might mean. I'm also hoping to hear some dream stories in return--so... analyze this: "Okay, Dr. Freud, I dreamt of snakes. And yeah, I know, I know, but this time they weren't huge and menacing at all--and this time I did not hack them up into pieces. I dreamt of furry, striped snakes. Nod. That's right. They were furry. And striped. Yellow and orange stripes, in fact. In my dream, I was sitting with my sister (twist)in a place that looked alot like Munchkinland from The Wizard of Oz, but it was elevated, like a free floating bridge--and I was scared of falling off, but my sister (true to form) was not afraid at all. That's when I saw two of these creatures, pop up out of this astro-turf style grass. They were smiling. They also enjoyed being petted, quite cute too. I was afraid for their safety as well, as they seemed to crawl aimlessly, and quickly--sometimes veering too close to the edge. I told my sister I was afraid for all of us, and then suddenly more of them appeared, so many I couldn't count--and they began to sing. I remember they were "jamming" in tune with one another, singing a song that sounded like that song, "Let's get it started--yeah, Let's get it started" then they sang a line not from the song that referred to "reefer". And that was it. I woke up laughing." So, any armchair analysts out there care to take this on? And does anyone else have a funny dream to share? |

Howdy sis. Frankly, I don't see the snakes as being innately symbolic of anything except perhaps generally as 'fear'. In this case, fear that if you worry about too many things, divide your mind and time among too many trifling concerns, that you won't have the time or energy to devote to those things which need some worrying over. Snakes appear, you worry about them being too close to the edge, and more snakes appear until you lose track of how many are there and can't worry about them all. By trying to worry about all the snakes, you ended up worrying about none of them...and you never knew how many then fell off the bridge. |

Hi, S. Don't mean squat, except the mind is doing it's thing as usual. If the same dream dreams you like, thirty nights in a row, I'd either up or get off the meds. Best, Jim |

grinning here... To have a recurring dream, I'd have to have recurring sleep. Nope, that one was a brand new one (sans zanax) but what you say might be true--since I do intend to try the "sleepytime" tea and tylenol P.M. again tonight--but with the zanax this time. (I did the unthinkable in New Orleans about street drugs--I burnt bridges. Actually, I shot at 'em. And I'll have to be unconscious to see another doctor again--I refuse to hear the words "cope" from people who are leaving the area in a mass exodus. It's damned insulting.) But I agree with you that some dreams are just brain defrag--so thanks, lovie, for your input too. But Dr. Alicat did lend some insight (thank ye bro) as I realized while talking to him that my IM service smilies--were the exact same image of my smiling snake faces. Kinda like this-- --except on IM? They are shaded with orange! Sheesh. Add to that my recent guilt-trip that I spend too much time just "playing and talking" online than I do actually writing, then, nod, what he said makes sense. I've had recurring snake dreams before--back when I was juggling men though. (Burnt them bridges too.) But yep, if anyone else cares to share--I love dream stories, and if anyone else cares to offer an interpretation, I'm game for that too. It's all gravy. |

Of course we know what this dream was about from a Freudian perspective. Sex. Snakes are phallic symbols. Furry snakes. That smile when petted... |

They didn't spit Reb. And I thought I was progressing, since I usually "hack" them into pieces. (c'mon Jim...you gotta admit--IT FITS) |

Furry snakes huh? Are you sure they weren't just cattails? I used to love interpreting dreams. I'll have a go at it. quote: Your dream sounds like you are starting to accept the things you fear by looking at them from a different, more positive perspective. quote: I take it that you don't like snakes, obviously, and you act accordingly in your dreams by dicing them up. In this dream, they were furry. Look at the snakes as your fears. When you would normally want to destroy your fears by "hacking them up," this time you accepted your fears as "furry" and learned to cope with them in harmony. I think that's what "They also enjoyed being petted, quite cute too" means. This is a positive dream; you might be on the road to finding a deep inner peace. That's my take on it at least. “Well all the apostles, they’re sittin’ on the swings, sayin’ I’d sell off my savior for a set of new rings.” |

'fraid I can't offer a full interpretation... but thought I'd let ya know that, after reading your description of the snakes (furry, striped & smiling) what immediately popped into my head was the cheshire cat... "'But I don't want to go among mad people,' said Alice. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the cat. 'We're all mad here.'" |

Your description of the snakes sounds more like giant Wooly Worms. They are a part of our folklore around here, forecasting weather. Sounds like you've got your own festival going on in your dreams. The Wooly Worm turns into the Isabella Tiger Moth. Could mean a lot of big changes will be taking place for you (and poss. your sister) this winter. Could mean she might have to rescue you from a Dead Head cult group. Haha. then again, your creative mind might just be working overtime, providing you a break from the norm with some light-hearted entertainment. love, reg |

Marshmallows aside... I had to giggle at the "furry" part of your snake. A couple of weekends ago I had some of the grandkids with us, we were at Rolling Hills, and there it was...a six' furry snake. I told my son-in-law that it was "almost like the one" that I brought home from Disneyland back in 1969 from our high school senior trip. THAT was the one the granddaughter wanted. And yep. It was yellow and orange striped. Mine was a yellow-ish orange with black stripes. I kept it for a long time...wonder where it slithered off to? You want dreams? I could post you to prose...I left a few behind that I bet you missed. Hint. One of our poets, after reading a couple of my dreams, mentioned to me that since it seemed I have a great deal of clarity in them, that I was to "look for more". I.e., you see a face? See if you can count the freckles. A man is wearing a shirt? See if you can describe the buttons. I have to say, realizing that I could delve more deeply into my dreams has caused me to do just that. I don't have a clue as to how it all works, but it seems to be even more conducive to some very interpretive dreams.... Sleep well, honey, and dream on! As far as the interpretation might go... I understand that even though the multitudes seem to be leaving your area, I sense that the "least" of them will remain, and in some way, provide the entertainment the area so readily needs, and deserves. They [the symbolism of the most unlikely] are smiling, not dangerous, but like any snake, will come from the most uncommon and unfamiliar areas. Not all snakes live in the ground...as we know. Some are at home in trees, and elsewhere. Yea, I know...I took this seriously. Probably because I'm inundated with dreams EVERY night, and I've no Dr. of my own to sit quietly, listen, and just talk about it. So, thanks, hon... |

Thanks everybody! I must say that since that dream, I have been enjoying sleep more regularly than I have in a long time. I'm still unsure of what the dream meant, if anything, but I must say it was closer to how I actually feel about snakes in real life, than the puzzling nightmares I've had previously that involved snakes. (I like snakes, Ed. I've had a few as pets before--one that liked to sleep in the braid of my hair...) Ew. I know. I think that it was an optimistic dream though...and I enjoyed it much, as well as the responses here. "singing snakes" Sheesh. NEXT??? |

Why is everything solved with pills? My God, the things we put into our bodies... Well K, misinterpretation on my part, you said you usually hack the snakes up in your dreams so I figured you didn't like them, lol. “Well all the apostles, they’re sittin’ on the swings, sayin’ I’d sell off my savior for a set of new rings.” |

vhat is everyvon talking about. It is an obvious search for sexual adventure that we all desire at times. The two you velt would fall made your afraid for your inner need to maintain this balance of desire and adventure, thus the appearance of the multitude of snakes. The connection vith the fur and snake is just some kinky side wanting out, like leather. Either that or you just eat something too late, one can never know with snakes. Well its like this thing with cigars.... Sigmund |
