Two friends (40 years old) . One is republican from democratic parents. one is democratic from republican parents. another friend, a very young man (19)....talked like her mother..a republican. DO parents have strong influence on your siding with parties? views? (let's say when you were at age of 25 to 30 yrs old) myself? no. because my parents, in general, do not talk about politics in front of children. |

my dad always did. yes, I took after his political views. When I got old enough that politics actually mattered to me, I still think like he does. ![]() |

I think that within time a person will be abe to choose for his/her own. Some people get influenced by other's opinions, especially if those others were close to him/her, but I believe that as a person grows and see more of what goes on on earth and among countries, he'll be able to judge for his own good... I don't know what party I belong to anyway :P Tears of Sanity~ |

My parents did, in fact, have a profound influence on my political leanings... although, not by what specific party they belonged to. In total honesty, I had no clue what party my father voted for until I was married and had 2 kids. I was raised that you need to pull yourself along, make your way for yourself, and that you were to offer no excuses and that no one was a victim, and everyone had the options and the right to make their own lives what they were to become. My father never let me believe that people were not able to make their lilves better for themselves simply because they were "disadvantaged". These are core conservative values. As a result, I grew up with conservative thoughts and feelings. My mother was (and is) very, very pro-life. This is a huge Republican issue. I am, as one might guess, a Republican conservative. Now... to give myself a little saving grace, my mother also taught me that if I were blessed, then it was my responsibility to assist those who were less blessed than I. I spent time in nursing centers giving my time to those who were "forgotten". I raised money for Toys for Tots, and other social causes. I believed that the government should use its resources and power to assist the populace to make their way in life. These are Democratic and liberal thoughts. I would temper that with the thought that the government does holds the responsibility for its citizens; however, not in that it needs to pay for all of their bills and make them, in essence, a ward of the State. My thoughts are that the government should assist the population who ae having difficulty providing with themselves to get to a level where they can do it without outside help... yet another Republican thought. Anyhow, it was not in their political leaning,m but in the way I was raised that built my political thoughts. What would you attempt to do...if you knew you could not fail?. |
