There is a singer (I personally don't know her music..) Anastacia who started a charity: The Anastacia Fund at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. On her website there is a contest that looks like it might interest some people here. A friend told me about it so I thought I would spread the word. As I said, I never heard her music, but I read about her and she seems like a wonderful person. I thought some of you might be interested in taking a look! "There is always some madness in love. It does seem like a fun contest rosepetals, and I wish more artists would donate proceeds to medical research. But sometimes certain words don't work well together--"cool" & "cancer" just startle me in the same sentence. I actuqally shuddered reading the topic line. No offense intended, I'm sure. And as you probably realize, there are many here who can write personally, knowledgeably, and regretfully about this subject. It is a complicated, hateful disease. Thank you for letting us know about the contest. |

Well I certainly didn't mean cancer was cool and never thought it would be taken in any way like that. I'm sorry it startled you... But it does sound like a .. cool contest for cancer... I will change the wording though. I hope I didn't offend... |

and btw? It really WAS nice to hear of an artist who cares enough to give something positive back to the people. During these times of "The Fabulous Lifestyles of blah blah" & all this "Battle of the Bling" it's downright refreshing. (I hate to buy into the media crapola, but if it's true that Brittney Spears once had a cup of coffee flown to her at the price of ten thousand dollars--well I like to think there is a special Hell for such ostentation, especially during these needy times of the world.) RP, I did a little looking around at the website you linked us to, and I have to admire the tenacity of the coordinator to make sure that one's own lyrics, music, voice, etc., is to be copyrighted. That says a lot. Thank you for passing on some good, uplifting information on a deadly disease. I just lost yet another friend to cancer this Sunday. So your timing was indeed, timely. |

I definately have to agree with you serenity. I'm sure there are better uses for couple of thousand dollars than a new haircut or a fancy meal. It's nice to see an artist actually doing more than saying she cares. Sunshine, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend  I think cancer is a thing that touches everyone's life at one time or another. It has touched my life through relatives and friends many times. That is part of the reason why I posted this. We need to do all the research we can so we can find a cure.
