With BLACK FRIDAY (cue echoing) just around the corner, I still find myself searching for gifts to give. I enjoy giving gifts. However, this year my parents have nothing special they want, they say they have everything they need. But, I want to get each of them something and my mind draws a blank! My question is... What do you give to someone that has everything they need or want? Thanks everyone ![]() |

How about a piggy bank...with some money in it....along with a brochure of some far off place they've always wanted to visit...then each birthday, anniversary, mother/father's day, add a contribution to the bank. Someday, they can take a dream vacation. ![]() |

Good ideas, everyone! Here's another thought to add to the list...how about a gift certificate to a reaaalllly classy restaurant that they would never treat themselves to? |

Well, Denise is the on the right track, but I sometimes give coupons...coupons for a free back rub [from me], or a shopping spree [I do their shopping for them], or a coupon to walk their dog or house sit...get the idea? Oh yeah...coupons should be redeemable for one year... ![]() |

As a parent, one of the nicest gifts my son ever gave me was when he had the most money! I have everything I need too, but you can never have enough love right? He bought a beautiful box and in it he put on pieces of paper all the reason that he loved me. Well needless to say that box is the most valuable thing that I own, there is nothing worth more to me in the world. Just a thought. |

Mysteria, That is a lovely gift he gave you, a priceless one. I bet you are very proud. I think I know now what to get, as long as it's from my heart. ![]() |

After extensive research (and the acceptance that stores weren't open on Christmas day) I came up with the perfect gift solution: Gift Certificates. |

It appears to me that usually people go nuts around the holiday season because they feel an Obligation to buy gifts. My suggestion? Just spend time with them. If you're hell bent on getting them something, go for intimacy. Or arrange for them to do on a "date". I did that for my parents one year and they really enjoyed since with the business of life they don't get to sit down and simply enjoy the company of each other alone. i was here [This message has been edited by Jaime (12-05-2002 11:06 PM).] |

Thank you all again. I finally found the gift to give. I found some old pictures of my mom and dad when they were dateing. One is of dad standing by a tree in the spring and the other is of my mom at the same tree. I blew them up and put them in pretty frames. My mom is in to that, she has old pictures all around the house. But none of her and dad. I hope they like it! ![]() |

Miah, that sounds like an awesome gift...thoughtful as well. Pictures are probably my favorite thing in the world...they speak so much. I know I'd absolutely love a gift like that. I'm sure they will as well. Thumbs up to you on that one...you did very well! Share Jesa, Stroke Jesa, Pet Jesa, Love Jesa. |

Miah, speaking as a parent, that is a very good gift that you are giving to your parents. I think they will love the pictures. I'll bet that those were very important to them and then you getting them enlarged and putting them in frames will just make them more special to them. ![]() ~Ethel~ |
