What browser do you use to access the forums? Internet Explorer? Netscape? Or something entirely different?

How current is your browser? (You can find the version number by going to Help in the menu, then clicking on About "name-of-browser")

I'm guessing that most of our people use IE 5.5 or greater. I hope I'm right ...

IE 6.0.26

According to Sitemeter, you're right - Looks like 93% of your visitors use IE 5.0 or higher. I was surprised to notice that 34% are using 6.0. Interesting.

The stats at Sitemeter include the main site and the visitors there are typically a little more behind the times (I can say that, because I still use Netscape 4.7x for most things). I'm hoping the vast majority of our forum Members use IE 5.5 or better.

And, no, it's not an idle question. I'm designing some new software and can offer some pretty nifty features for those using IE 5.5 or better. But it's only worth designing two versions of the software if most of our Members will benefit.

I'm downloading the new version. 6.0. The thing is, I didn't see I.E. 7.0 on the site. Is this a new version specifically for business, or for something particular such as that? Just curious.

Sincerely,
Titus

In IE, just look under the "Help" menu, and click on, "About Internet Explorer".  This will tell you what version of IE you are currently using.  The same applies to Netscape, except it says, "About Communicator".

Mine says that I am using Version 6.0.2800.1106 because I just downloaded the current Security updates from Microsoft.  I am also running Netscape 4.79.

I would like to remind our host that not everyone runs IE or Netscape.  Some people run other "minor" browsers, like Mozilla.

Thank you.

You mean Netscape 6.x? I keep hoping someone has 6.2 installed, so I can ask them to do some testing. The "new" Netscape (post 4.7x) wasn't really written by Netscape, but by an AOL-backed team (design by committee?), and I'm unsure whether it will like my new programs or not. There's also Opera, which is gaining in popularity, Lynx, and of course webTV (which doesn't like much of anything).

It is certainly starting to sound like "most" of our people will be able to use the features I have in mind. I spent a few days last week designing a WYSIWYG editor that will allow IE users to format their poetry just as easily as you can in MS Word. Highlight some text, then click on a button to turn it bold, change the color, or select a new font or size. The Admins tested it for me last week and thought it was pretty cool. I still need to write the JavaScript to insert images, smilies, and other special things, but wanted to make sure it would be useful to more than just a handful of our people.

If you'd like, I'll post a link to my testing board in a few days so others can try it out.

Yes, please post the link, that would be very helpful.  It prompted me to upgrade my Netscape browser to Netscape 7.0.  Although, by the way it is presented, you would think that it was giving me AOL.

Thank you.
