You know what I'm talking about. The songs that just make you take a breath and feel the need to go out and do something real and succeed right now. So powerful that they can make you cry, but so positive it doesn't matter.

Mine are:

One Song Glory from the musical Rent (and may Jonathon Larson rest in piece)
Do You Hear the People Sing from Les Miserables
Red and Black from Les Mis
hell, most anything with Enjorlas from Les Mis
Bad for Good by Jim Steinman
Tonight is What it Means to be Young by Jim Steinman, performed by Fire Inc.
To Dream the Impossible Dream from Don Quixote (even if it's been overdone

)
In the Name of Love by U2.
Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2 (even though this one's tinged with so much sadness, it just makes me want to act, to do something).
Imagine by John Lennon (not so big, but most definitely moving).
Revolution by The Beatles. Both versions! 'Cause sometimes you need it to be more rockin'.

And I don't know why a song saying revolutionaries are foolish gets me going, but it always does.

I Love Myself Today by Bif Naked.

And that's where my thoughts run out.

Imagination, Brian Wilson (poor guy)
The entire Songs in the Key of Life album, Stevie Wonder (god it's amazing)
Anwynn, Beneath the Waves; Faith and the Muse (again, screwed in the head)
Nothing Else Matters and Unforgiven, Metallica (?!?!?!)

I'm not the most religious person in the world but "The Cross" by Prince stirs my soul every time and reminds me that God did grace us with a beautiful world and that I should get out there and enjoy it more (lol)

Definitely "Imagine" by Lennon

and here's a corny (and obscure) choice but I love it just the same.. "I" by KISS ... something about the driving rock rythyms coupled with the all too catchy affirmative chorus makes me want to pump my fist and say "yeah, I'm gonna show the world a thing or two!" lol

I'm sure I'll think of more but that's all for now

it's my life by bon jovi (corny i know....but it's SO COOL)

Damn Lori, you kept me up late last night!!! I saw this thread and started rummaging through the old album collection (yep, those old vinyl things…I have a soft spot for them) and just kept playing some old faves.
Okay, here’s my picks…some expected…some just my idea of big and moving. You already said Glory from Rent and pretty much all of Les Miz, the two best soundtracks of all time. So my other picks are:

In Your Eyes, and Beeko, both by Peter Gabriel
Swamp Thing, and Up the Down Escalator, both by The Chameleons
Waterfront and Pleasantly Disturbed, both by Simple Minds (honest, I’m not trying to do this in pairs!! Lol)
All Lined Up, by Shriekback
Bring on the Dancing Horses by Echo and the Bunnymen
Do They Know It’s Christmas by Bandaid

Okay, I may be back with more after digging through the album collection some more.

Strangely, R.E.M.'s Radio-Free Europe makes we want to get up and do something. Like figure out what Stipe is singing!
