every second in a minute will count today because the boys are off to war this day brother please don't leave our mama in tears she's beggin' for you to stay becuase her only boy is off to fight today daddy your little girl is screamin' :my daddy, oh he can't be leavin': she's sobbing for her daddy today because her daddy's never comin' back they say husband there your wife's got baby inside he'll be born the day you die the tears fell when he was shipped away because her man went off to die today the women will cry and the man will lay the world is to shame the nations will blame our boys are off to war today _hey kids.please help me with this antiwar "song" i was asked to write. i'd really appreciate constructive critism, something i can change, not snide remarks i've been reading lately. lol. i do know that the rhyming is a bit forced, but that's the kind of help i'm looking for. tighting it up and smoothing it out. thanks a ton! as always, good day. _rae [This message has been edited by raevynsbreath (09-05-2003 09:09 PM).] |

The strength of these verses to be sung or chanted was immediately apparent, but a song is different to other poems. It has to have something memorable, something the mind can catch and echo, as a chorus, right from the start. I think you've almost gotten that with the refrain in the last line of each verse, but it varies just a little too much. Unlike poetry, a song can bear a lot more repetition and only gain in power from it. The last verse is, well, it is loose somehow compared to the rest. The meanings are so clear all through the rest of the piece, and it touches us, yet the last verse seems unfocused, almost vague. I think if you can get the same clarity into the last verse, you'll have a much stronger piece. I hope that's of some help, but I'm pretty new at this. ![]() |
