Hate Is An Ugly Word

Hate is an ugly word,
still,
I find myself thinking it,
feeling it.
I heard there is a thin line
between love and hate.
I crossed over today,
over that imaginary line,
or was it yesterday?
I'm not really sure,
just when I crossed.
Not really sure when
things began to change.
Time feels weird,
and my head aches.

Staring at you now,
sheer fury fills my being,
traveling down my arms
to my fingertips,
attacking my nerve endings,
making me rigid with hate.
Hate is such an ugly word.
I want to slap your face,
slap that unfeeling look,
yet my arm stays frozen,
unyielding at my side.

As my eyes focus on your face
my old pain takes over again.
The hurt returns, kicks my heart,
leaving me breathless.
It renders the hate helpless,
and yet,
I hate you beyond words
because I love you.
Hate is such an ugly word.

Mary,

I really liked this...and it is so very true. You've brought up a lot of the different aspects of hate...one being that love and hate are so very close. Nice work.

wow. that's really good. i know sometimes you may not want to hear it, but i understand. and i think many others do as well.

Wow. I was thinking of deleting the poem because I thought no one liked it and everyone was just too kind to say so. LOL Thank you all for responding to the poem and for the praise. I am so happy you all liked it! You made my day!
