I fancied May when New France would revive: The flocks of swallows and the croaks of frogs, The tulip gardens and the girls in clogs. Then summer would allow the sun to thrive For just as long as it took for lads to wive; That was soon over. Hail to autumn fogs And coloured leaves, the time when father slogs In fields of corn, the winter to survive. The leafless trees, the icy roads, the snow And bitter cold, they all conspired to Make me depart my country for a beach, To leave it all behind for Baguio. Today, to see fair May and all anew A flight to Canada do I beseech. |
