Daylight tells lies. It stares us
in the face with bright mistruth,
and lures us away from our real sight.
The stars, as soon as they appear,
bring about the end of night; and
as they appear and our eyes focus,
we see ourselves just like we do
in daytime: the harsh illumination
of our flawed personalities ricocheting
from the mirror to our eyes.
But for those few unfocused minutes
we can find the unlit part without
the mental perjury of sight. We can
look at our hands without misleading
portraits of beauty or fatigue, without
the perception of wrinkled skin,
without the lies that some reflect upon us.
We can love in the most truthful way
instead of reading by rote, instead of
singing the note that everyone tells us
we should be. This night brings out
the true musicians.

I have a few problems here and there, but this is definitely intriguing.

Welcome to CA!

My problems are ultimately with your diction and, at least for me, a difficulty in fully grasping the metaphor. That a lack of focus creates clarity is okay, but I'm not sure how that translates into a freedom from peer pressure.
