Devoid of faith, the intellectual man
investigates for evidence of God.
Believers urge that he be partisan,
but sober reason undermines a fraud.

Consider how the concepts might diverge:
a clutch of eggs develop in their nest
and just about the time the chicks emerge,
a "Providence Divine" is manifest.

Miraculously, flies and worms appear
and feed the hungry brood. They trill in laud!
The worms do not rejoice. We will not hear
a single note of wormsong praising God.

This discourse doesn't mean to misconstrue,
but asks: is there a God, or are there two?

Poetry is the sculpting of words. We ALL start with a lump of clay.

i really enjoyed this poem... and i can empathize with the thoughts and ideas of the intellectual man of whom you speak. I have written many a poem on similar topics...but never in the form of a sonnet! (now i won't ever... i don't think i'd be able to do yours justice!) I think your poem in wonderfully written...and thank you for sharing it

"Who you are speaks so loudly...I can hardly hear what you are saying"
