You may or may not be aware but, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is a cause that none of us can afford to over look. I would like to challenge EVERYONE to contribute a poem to this cause. Children ARE our future! A Child’s Cry It happens every few seconds Even in our own backyard Someone has abused the innocent And a child is now scarred They’re forced to grow up far to quick Robbing them of their childhood Wouldn’t you help them If you knew, you could? It only has to happen once Now they feel like damaged goods We wonder who could do this thing But somebody out there, would Abused, they are forever scorned No longer feeling they’re alive In need of our help If they are going to survive How can we not Look them in the eye And open our ears to hear It’s everywhere……a child’s cry Marina Apr 2000 |

Your right,it does only have to happen once, and it totally confuses your mind and messes up the strangest most unexpected parts of your life. It happened to me,just once, and i know i can never be normal as a result. And i know many many other women that the same thing has happened to,even my mother. This happens TO MUCH!! And there she weaves by night and day, a magic web of colours gay.~Tennyson |

Yes, it does happen way too much. And scars last a lifetime. |

I wrote a poem about child abuse not so long a go from the child's perspective...would that be acceptable for your challenge? I wish we could put a stop to this abhorrent crime. What are you actually going to do with the poems? Well, I'd appreciate it if you would email me with the answers to my two lil questions! Thanks! Marina~ The poem is well-done. The response to the challenges have been met with resounding compassion. It has been a compassionate undertaking to read each and every one of them ... and to contribute a couple of pieces in Open #7 that were near and dear to my heart. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Marina, I enjoyed your poem, very much,It surely touches a nerve in millions of people. So many cases go unreported on a daily basis. I am a survivor of Sexual Abuse,I am 59 yrs of age,and it has aggected many areas of my Life, and probably will until my demise! As long as there are children, this crime will continue, until the end of time. I hope you have been able to come to terms with your pain,I can relate so well! May the Angels watch over you!
