The Ten Minute Storm |

A zephyr, a breeze drifting down to the town. The clouds are beginning to stack up and down. Intensified breeze, signals weather in store. The drizzle of rain, becomes now a downpour. The flash of a lightning bolt lights darkening sky. Above the noise of the rain, a birds mournful cry. Accelerating winds, whip nests from the boughs. Cacaphonic thunder , the storm is here now. Roiling boiling clouds ascend into space. Sun disappears, in this cauldron no place for light. Entangled power lines blue flashes erupt. Electrical mayhem, communications corrupt. Somewhere on high, a small rotation gets birth. Twisting, spiralling, sweeping down towards earth. The noise like a freight train chills to the bone. Humanity, frantically, cowering in homes. The tornado in furious helical form. Scavenges, trunks from roots they are torn. Spearing brick walls, as if made of glass. Roofs walls and floors, succumb to the blast. Screams of the living ,drowned in the noise. Revolving maelstrom's maintaining it's poise. The thundering storm is desroying all dreams. Catastophic destruction, reigning supreme. Groundspeed increasing, energy releasing, Devastation, annhilation, rotation decreasing. Whirlwind elevating, windspeed abateing, Liftoff completing, cacaphony declining. Debris scattered, memories strewn. Families shattered, relationships hewn. Searching, crying, calling out names Survivors grief stricken , taking the blame. One short year later, the town is reborn. Brand new houses bright green grass lawns. Broken trees still show, the path of destruction. Headstones testament, natures ten minute eruption. Ecellent poem, Jack. Well described. I live too close to the mountains and they say it could never happen here, except two years ago, one touched down right in front of me (like 100 feet away) as i was driving home--good thing it was a little one. ~Gene |

Jack--Beautiful imagery. You did a wonderful job with this piece. You continually have such wonderful poetry. "Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare |
