Tip for Life She, dressed all in white, Flowers in her hair, He, in Morning suit and big top hat, feeling suave and debonair. He remembers this young woman the moment she was born, He will hand her to another man, Feeling proud but so forlorn. She thinks back to days of piggy backs and bouncing on his knee, She doesn't want to leave him, But knows it has to be. She loves this man so deeply, but in another way to the younger man whom she will join on this her Wedding Day. He says, 'You know it's not too late, There's still time to change your mind?' 'If you really want to back away, I'll see you're not maligned.' She says, 'It's okay Dad, I really love him so, I want to spend my life with him, Have his children, Watch them grow.' He says, 'You'll always have a bed here, If he hurts you, just you shout, I'll always come and get you, Of that there is no doubt.' She says, 'Dad, he makes me happy, He loves me, he is true.' He says, 'Then that's enough for me, If you're happy I am too. She says, 'Have you a tip to help me as married life I do attack?' 'Yes,' says he, 'a tip for life, Wipe your bum from front to back.' |

John, This is such a great description of a father's love and hope for his daughter on her wedding day. The end was a surprise and made me roar. This is superb. The poem provoked a lot of feelings in me that I've ignored for quite a while. The ending, however, made me laugh and remember that it's all just a part of life. Thankyou and excellent work.
