The waves come pounding in, against the sea wall they slam. The force of the mighty wind has the effect of a battering ram. The towering palm trees take on a hairpin shape. Bending further and further, from the roots they are raped. The rain pours down and the land quickly floods. Mother nature's wrath is looking for blood. The course of the storm takes its toll on each one. The hurricane has passed, the destruction is done. ...the earth and myself are of one mind. The measure of the land and the measure of our bodies are the same........... Joseph, Nez Perce Chief |

I found myself gripping my chair tightly in an effort not to be carried by the wind. I was certainly carried by your words. Topical too. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

Sheila, having been in this kind of situation, I can say you described it very well. I too was gripping my chair. Excellent work! ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Black Eagle Oglala Sioux holy man |

John, Denise, Kim, Twin- Thank you all for your comments on this one. Every year here, we are at risk of experienceing this, several times throughout hurricane season in Florida. It can be such a trying time. Sheila ...the earth and myself are of one mind. The measure of the land and the measure of our bodies are the same........... Joseph, Nez Perce Chief |

Sisikat, As I was reading, I was ready to head for shelter! The wind whipping my face, The rain stinging my skin, All seemed so hopeless, Then then the calm came in! WHEW! That was a close one! Thanks for sharing your vision with me! Dennis :^) |

Sheila, Wonderful and powerful poem. Now add snow to that and you'll know what I'm going through right now! --Well, not quite that bad. ~Gene |

Sheila--WOW...very vivid imagery!! I have now come as close as I ever care to come to a hurricane!! You've done a wonderful job here. This could easily be the color commentary for the hurricane footage we see on the news. "Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare |

Wonderful imagery .... you definetly captured a hurricane perfectly ... I also live in Florida, and every year, come the season, I notice a few more grey hairs sprouting on my head .... I was here for Andrew .... that really put the fear and awe of Nature's rath in my blood .... Excellent piece Sheila .... |
