Not the moon, nor sun, nor brightest light of day Could fade thy beauty from these eyes. Not cloud, nor gloom, nor darkest night Could ever shroud thee from my sight. Rough seas do make many a journey's early grave, But I would slay the waves and brave the storm For just one glimpse of my Love’s, calming face; And, by hand of eye; thy beauty’s grace, Silence the moon and blind the sun. O, brilliance face; light of my love, love of my life, Make placid, rough seas, and gentle, the breeze, So steer me straight and guide me forth; Of this be light, and light be love. Love of mine eyes, thou art my true north. ______ ~Gene [This message has been edited by u_gene (edited 03-23-2000).] |

This is what I always thought poetry was, even to an old coot like me, this is what you call romantic. I can't do this, mabe that's why I like it so much... |

Wow, this is splendid writing, and oh so romantic. I loved this part: "Rough seas do make many a journey's early grave, But I would slay the waves and brave the storm" The loving determination shows so strong in those lines. |

Another beautiful and romantic piece Gene. Your poem has stunned me into silence (and that's not easy ) "Not dark, nor gloom, nor darkest night Could ever shroud thee from my sight." This is simply beautiful! ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Black Eagle Oglala Sioux holy man |

Thank you all so much. I would like to answer each of your replies, but I think I can sum it up like this: I'm really taken aback by your responses. I had no idea you would think this highly of my poem. It pleases me to no end. I have more like this, but I've been reluctant to post them 'cause I thought people would really think I was weird--trying to write like a 400 year old poet. Sometimes though, I imagine myself as a poet of the past. I like to write from the heart and when I'm in a romantic mood, I seem to be able to express myself better this way. Again, thank you all. you don't know how much it means me. ---- ~Gene p.s. ((((HUGS)))) to Munda for convincing me to post this. |

Gene--WOW!! I don't get a chance to sign on here for a couple of days, and look what I miss!! This is truly beautiful. Please don't fear posting your other pieces like this; I, for one, am glad that the 400 year poet is alive and well inside of you. Thanks for sharing this one with us. < !signature--> "Unto thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night, the day; thou cans't not be false to any man."---Shakespeare [This message has been edited by freckles (edited 03-25-2000).] |

Janet Marie -- wondrous -- freckles -- Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'm very happy that you all like this. Yes, I will post more, but I'm still getting the hang of writing sonnets. I didn't know anything about proper meter when I wrote this one. Usually, I don't care about meter, I just write the way I feel, but I think with sonnets, I'll try to follow the rules from now on--I think it's more interesting that way. I'm really excited! I think I found a style that works for me. I just wrote three this morning! Sonnets just naturally seem romantic and I can dream about being a bard of old. ~Gene |

Kaile -- Thanks, but I'm afraid I didn't follow sonnet rules very well. But you know what? I don't care. Iambic pentameter, be damned. PdV -- What do you mean you didn't know i had a romantic streak? Did you forget about my "Alien Love Trilogy?" And it's not a streak--it's a giant blotch. ~Gene |

Gene, I don't think I could find enough adjectives to praise this poem. To me, this is the way poetry was really meant to be. Please do post your others. If they are half as beautiful as this one, they will fill my reading needs. Sheila ...the earth and myself are of one mind.
