THAT TERRIFYING DAY She woke up on this fine wonderful day Got the kids ready for school Dropped them off one by one the last one said, "I love you, mom." She thought it was odd, but responded with care. Later on that afternoon, She felt out of sorts Got a call, was told to come, up to the High School Where everything had gone wrong She rushed to the school as fast as she could The sight that beheld her was shocking There was chaos beyond belief She notice a crowd surrounding, She rushed over to see what was going on there was her son on the ground bleeding from the wounds that she found Who could of done such a thing, She cried with despair, by two of the children, that no one cared The boys came in shooting, she was told It didn't matter who they hit They came there to Die The evil these boys showed She could not understand She knew then, that her child was Dead. Does this mean something to you on a personal level? What you have written about is very heartbreaking. For any parent to lose a child..... |

Childomine nailed my very first thought and question..... I can not even Imagine having to face such a trajedy. A part of me would be lost if I lost either of my children. No one will ever forget Columbine and no one can even fathom it's Horror. |

I, myself can't imagine losing a child in such a horrible way. I can't imagine losing a child in any way. But I think when something is this horrible, it is harder to deal with. Being such a useless way to die. I guess I was trying to get across what feelings these people were feeling. It was really hard to do, because I have never been in that type of situation. The poems though just flowed out of me. I guess I was trying to make an impact. Tried to get people to understand how shocking it truly was. I don't know. This probably doesn't make too much sense. The feelings I felt while writing these poems was a lot of anger. To the parents, the goverment, society in general. Our kids now days, have to deal with alot more then when we were younger. They have to grow up faster to deal with society. And it's a real shame really. Why can't our children just be children. |

You've done an excellent job in trying to convey the hurt, anger, shock, horror of such a trajedy. All of my Instincts and radar went into hypermode while reading this. Yes our children are facing things today that I can not even Imagine. When I was in school my only fear(s) were getting a bad grade and worse case scenario being picked on. Today my children fear gang activity, guns, knives, gang wars and erupting violence in their schools and the nearby park. It is VERY disheartening and very difficult to reassure my children every day that things will be ok.. and then kiss, hug them and drive away to head to work. The really SAD thing is I can not place them in protective shells, or cocoons and know that they are going to be safe. Even sadder though is the lack of accepting and taking responsibility that I see in parents I have had to Interact with regarding our children. To many parents are wrapped up in their own lives and not aware of what and how their children are. Your poem REALLY hit a chord in me. Kim |
