Oh how hard I tried
to be perfect,
as if there were such
a thing!

When a child is not loved,
and cherished,
for exactly who they are,
that child begins to believe,
that somethig is wrong
with them.

Not realizing the truth,
that the fault lies
in the hearts
of the ones who know not
how to love.

So the child loses herself,
and begins to feel inside...
I must try harder.
I must be perfect.
Maybe then they will love me.

Much prayer and support,
and God heals the wounds,
and reveals the truth.

True self is rediscovered
and celebrated!

Imperfectly human,
the joy of self-acceptance!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Very well expressed.  It's a painful thing to go through.
