Since Socrates and Plato's time
And Horace wrote in perfect rhyme
And Aristotle led the way
In many things we use today,
Have we lost or have we grown
In the wisdom we were shown?

It seems to me our leaders lack
The qualities we once found back
When Pliny taught and Plato wrote
And Alexander's army smote
Syria and Egypt too.
Can we find a vital clue
While pouring through the tomes of life.
To save us from more wars and strife?

When will we realize at last
Earth's riches are depleting fast?
We must search these anciant pages
for the wisdom of the ages.
Solutions could conceivably
Lie in the past, for you and me!

How true.  And how wise some of these long ago people were. Without all of the instant information that we have today.  Joyce

truism in poetry,
realism in rhyme,
how the world has
changed with time.

well written words
well portrayed thoughts
and quite the awesome poem
i sought

then i found this write by you,
exquisite, grand, and completely true

Dear Dream Child:  I like this poem you wrote for me, better than the one I wrote for the site! Thanks.

Very good thoughts. Yes, we can and must learn from the past.
I especially like your query...
Have we lost or have we grown
In the wisdom we were shown?
