Saw the play, came home and wrote the poem. For what it's worth.) The S. Pimpernel was considered a dandy, But he was the one you wanted handy; If ever a villain wanted your head, He'd lop that wicked man's instead. If Scarlet Pimpernel were alive today, We'd point a finger and laugh at his way. For we judge by the cover of the book, Instead of taking a longer look. So let us not sneer at our different neighbor, He may be the one who can wield a sabre To chase our enemies and show us the way, To live and fight another day. By Joyce 4/3/01 |
