Another love song
plays softly on the radio
requitted love
wins the day again
i feel like a target
shot at again
like the tail end
of an evesdropped conversation
no context to the words
just hollow meaning
and the song ends

One of pain begins
unreconciled lovers
that would be me and mine
i wore this wound
for your benefit
like a badge of honor
my heart in my breast pocket
never wear your mind
on a sleeve like this
and the song ends

They're all love songs
redemption and rejection
roll around in my mind
and on my tongue
with such a bitter taste
not for this mouth
i spit it out
in frustration
condemned by my song

A dirge of death
that plays constantly
this is the soundtrack of my life
rejection and regret
with little redemption
but who wants that
it's like pity
false to the core
and transparent to the eye
i'll take the truth
painful and bare
raw like burned skin
and sharp as winter's wind

I'll take one true song
to balance all the false ones
"yes i love you
yes i want you
i'll never leave"
the lies fly thick and fast
but not from my radio.

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

I really like this verse, says a lot. Oh those heartbreak songs, sometimes one does get tired of listening to them...because, perhaps they ring true...

This is a very earthy, honest, and connected piece of work, gofor42.
I'm reading you loud & clear.

"I'll take the truth
painful and bare
raw like burned skin
and sharp as winter's wind"

These were my favorite lines,
but I really like the whole thing.
Good poem.

Hail truth...all that comes from else will spoil....on a basically non related topic, i just heard on the radio that a young Transylvanion man who was arrested (drunken and in a railway car) ten hours after stealing seven MILLION dollars from the bank where he worked, told police that he already spent it all on prostitutes and liquor. Hmmm.....truth do you think?
