The mere facts were not enough
She embroidered
The truth with lies

Truth was too plain
For her imaginative mind

Truth was something
That always had to be put
Behind a hideous disguise

Her lies became so frequent
No one believed them but her

For every reason
She had an excuse
That didn't even begin to equal
A reasonable facsimile

She was in her glory
When she heard bad news
For then she could pick up
The telephone
And repeat its horror
In fictional detail

I guess life just wasn't
Exciting enough
For her to see it as it was
I always believed
Truth was stranger
Than fiction
And if the honest truth ever
Came from
That lady's mouth
Then it really was

It's so ironic though
The things people might have
Told her,
If she could only have been trusted
With their secrets
