"voices"

wild geese overhead
primeval voices singing
the sky has echoes

beseeching the wind
far above the prairie grass
silent swift shadows

Silent swift shadows...This brought to me the memory of an enormous owl that lived near my home as a kid. One night as i stood watching the last of a sunset with my younger brother, this owl tried to snatch the hat from my head. I could not figure out what happened until i saw his silhouette just above the trees. Thanks for stirring the memory.

Thanks again, Red Feather.

I love the geese, they are so intelligent.

Your anecdote about the owl, reminds me of the time an acquaintance thought he would photograph some baby owls in their nest.
The mother swooped down as he was leaning over the cliff to get the picture, and sunk her talons into his back!! Ouch!!!
Thanks again for reading and contributing.

These are both beautiful. I enjoyed them both but the one about geese is my favorite. We have lots of geese that fly over our part of the country and several years  a pair has nested in the wetlands area at the back of our yard.  I like to hear them even when they aren't honking or calling.  They sort of mutter when they're contented.

Thanks, Betty Lou.
We live very close to the river here,
and take walks along its banks.
In the early morning you can always hear geese.
And of course coyotes. lol

I never thought of it that way, Karilea.
Although they beseech the wind,
the true source of power for this recurring journey, is their eternal love for one another.
Very enlightening, Thanks!
