At the end of winter’s bleak night,
     gradually lengthens the daylight.

As it chips away silent cold,
to loosen the dark’s barren hold.

A chained land holds its bated breath,
     distant silent song beckons yet.

Feel the tremors surge deep and slow
quickens the sap, a renewed flow.

Ghostly bird calls echo around,
     great expectations of fresh sound.

Sudden crack! Spring’s horizon breaks
free to ripple the icy lake.

Defeated winter can only stand,
as warm sun flows across the land.

"Only write from your own passion, your own truth. That's the only thing you really know about, and anything else leads you away from the pulse." --Marianne Williamson

This brought vivid pictures of the winter and long awaited springs of my childhood.  I was raised in North Dakota. Very impressive.  Joyce

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

You always write so beautifully of nature. I like this style, too. Here's to spring's victory!

Thank you all for your lovely comments.  Yes, I can finally see the beginnings of spring, both outside, and within myself.
