We're drifting in the shallows, for the wind has died away. The air is warm and heavy, as we ghost along the bay. The sail hangs slack above us and a languor fills our bones, while listening to the lapping of the water's liquid tones. There's a gust. The wind is back, so we tend our boat once more, falling on a starboard tack and our spirits start to soar. There's only wind and water and a great expanse of sky, the tiller and the rudder, our boat, my love, and I! Betty Lou Hebert |
