Do you see my golden windows?
So shiny and so clean?
I wiped them down with vinegar,
So sunlight I could glean.

Now every corner of my house,
Is filled with bright daylight.
I'll store it up and I won't need
A single lamp tonight.

I pray the birds and butterflies,
Don't think it a freeway here.
They will knock their little noggins,
And fall on their little rears.

I'm hoping if you're passing by,
You'll see the friendly glow
And want to stop to see me;
For my windows sing "Hello.

But unlike the inviting spider,
Who would use you for her meat;
I'll set out cakes and cookies,
And scones and things to eat.

We'll have a lovely gossip,
In this gleaming house of mine.
I'll send you home with a doggie bag,
Filled up with bright sunshine.

Joyce, this is such a delightful combination of 'down-home' wisdom and hilarity...
worrying about the birds and butterflies....
They will knock their little noggins,
And fall on their little rears.

I just laugh at the picture!
And a doggie bag of sunshine - priceless!

Dear Joyce:  This is a fun read as everyone has already said.  I do wish it were me driv ing up to your door for tea and scones. I started washing my windows on the one sunny day we had a week or so ago and only got about half through.  Vinegar is the only way to go!

I pray the birds and butterflies,
Don't think it a freeway here.
They will knock their little noggins,
And fall on their little rears.

As all have mention about the warmness of the poem, so shall I. Your poems should be in a childerns book. I envy you my friend.

Joyce, I am reading this at the end of the day, and yet I find myself looking forward to daylight.  Thank you for such a lovely, upbeat tale.  Ummm, what kind of cookies you got?  I like most of them.
