The Patriot
stared across the grey
of another brand new day

Appartment blocks and gentle palms
warmed slowly in the sun

His heart was heavy
What had it all been for?
The killing The sadness
The war

Alone he stared
He longed for a sound
Any sound or he'd scream
Then he remembered
his dream...

She had been his life
Her, and his men
Now both were no more
She to the wind
They to the war

But...the dream,
again...the dream
And always that smile
saying, 'It's okay...'
Someone had to pay...
for the war

And she paid in love...
Staring out of windows
Like he today
Wondering. "Where are you?"
"Are you okay?"

He had hardly thought of her
in his younger days
What she did, how she was...
Duty was all
For country,
and law
He commanded his men
fired up,
consumed...
by war

Now his thoughts
are ONLY of her
and the lonely days
that were
And the silence now
Like the silence then
When he was lost
at war

The Patriot
stares across the grey
A silence
in his heart
and mind
Then...a single voice
inside

'Love is All
And I love you
forever more
Find your Peace
in the heart
of war'

He turned with tears
pools in his eyes
He knew what he had to do
He knew what to work for
Amends for all the lonely years
And a final end
to war

Interesting story, perhaps love is the answer to everything, who knows, its a step in the right direction anyway. Well done.

A poignant, poetic piece.
Yet "peace" has its price, amigo.

As in life, every choice we make determines the price we pay later on. No worries though, eventually, most of us see what is important in life when we strap on all our gear and move through the woods with our rifles ready, wishing to God we had one last chance to make ammends...to kiss the ones we love one last time...yes, we all do. Great Work here!
