Today, as you are standing at the altar,
Anxiously awaiting the hand of your bride,
I'm lost in yesterday's sweet rememberings;
The toothless grins and toddling steps,
Kindergarten, first grade,
a little finger touching each word
as you learned how to read;
Watching as you grew and seeing the sparkle
that shone in those blue eyes
as you went after your dreams;
A young man, proudly standing in cap and gown,
First high school ~ then college,
Running, full of hope into the future.
And now, now you stand here in this church,
Waiting to start the next chapter
of your incredible life;
Waiting to say "I do" ~ lift the veil,
and kiss your lovely bride.
Tears flow freely, as my heart just bursts
with pride, with love, with every wonderful
memory that you've etched into my heart;
And I anticipate all of the joy that is yet
to come, and say a little prayer;
For a lifetime of happiness ~ for both you
and your precious bride;
On this day as you marry ~ your best friend.

This is absolutely beautiful. My dear sister just got engaged last week and has asked of me two very special honors. The first is to be a bridesmaid in her wedding and the second is to write a poem for her and her fiance to be read at the ceremony. If only I can write a poem half as beautiful as you for your son, I will be very proud.
