I. Poetry Poetry is art Poetry is photography Poetry's a visual You don't need eyes to see Poetry paints word pictures Of life's rhapsody's Poetry is music Poetry is words Set to melodies Words that are put in motion Set floating on a breeze Poetry's music, Waiting to be sung Poetry is music waiting To be played Poetry is words Dancing all around Poetry's notes being sung Without making a sound It's words sometimes Do a slow dance to a sad Mournful tune Then at other times they Get so excited that they Leap into the air, where they spin And they twirl like a graceful ballet Or sometime they just do a dance More mundane They get all dressed up to dance To a sweet, old fashioned Minuet Poetry's most versatile, Variety is her middle name She's a moody lady She play her own game Sometimes she has a cozy party With just a few guest words or two Other times she's throw a barn dance And invite the whole dictionary too II. Rhyme or Reason Sometimes I think I would like to understand The mystery of a the poet's muse The How and Why of Why Which causes a poet to be so blessed Why it is that a poet can sometimes Sleep well all night long To awaken to find poetic lines Flowing from their mind Then other times we have to leave our beds Just as we want to fall asleep We must rise to go and write A line that's running through our head Or else toss and turn all night Haunted by a verse The mystery of the poet's muse Perhaps we'll never understand The rhyme or reason So we will resolve to be content With just knowing That we have been both blessed and cursed By a mind that spills poetic verse |

These words describe our gift perfectly! You have said it well. Don't forget the nights we have this wonderful idea, and don't get up and write it down, and poof, it's gone in the morning. I hate it when that happens! My dear friend, you have penned this beautifully! A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

I know exactly what you mean...if I don't write my thoughts down when they are fresh in my mind, they're gone forever! I enjoyed reading this. JB |

You are blessed with a curse of the best kind! I liked the dreamy flow, sometimes this way, sometimes the other way. Very nice!!! |

Songbird, what a magnificent array! You tickle my fancy with this delightful rendition... what a gift you have for making images come alive... And you've delved fearlessly into the mystery of inspiration... A treasure! Lary |

There are many wonderful lines here. I especially loved the image of the words dancing in many different styles. And I, too, have suffered the perversity of a muse who wants to write when I want to sleep. What's a poor poet to do? There's no doubt you've touched a lot of us here with this. I never saw this one before. Where was I? I thought i had read every poem in this corner. Anyway it is also true. I too have gotten out of my nice warm bed, to write down my lines. Joyce |
