The voices softly call me.
They're reaching from the past.
This place I'm living holds me
With roots both deep and fast.

I knew you couldn't fight it
Right from the day we met.
It's in your blood to wander.
It's never left you yet.

I long to travel with you.
I ache to share your load.
In you I've found adventure
But I'm on a dead-end road.

I wish I were the woman
To share your wandering ways,
But I'm hedged by tradition.
I'll stay here all my days.

Think of me in springtime
When everything is new.
Don't judge me for my weakness.
My heart will go with you.

Goodbye my gypsy lover.
Your kisses I will miss.
Know that I really loved you
But my destiny is this.

This was something new for me, trying to write from another viewpoint. Thanks to Pegasus for the challenge and the inspiration.

interesting response, and beautifully written too...his lovely poetry will be missed..

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Ellie - Yes, it will be missed. Thanks for reading. It's nice to stretch in different directions once in a while.

Gloria - As you know, I usually write what I feel. This is one of the rare exceptions. I was trying to write what someone else might feel. Nevertheless, maybe we both could use a little adventure sometime. What to join us, Ellie?

Oh, wow, this is poignant, Marilyn - I sure hope he sees it...
Extremely well done - could have sworn it was you!
How cruel the fates can be....
just love it!

Lary - Surely it is not the cruelty of fate you love! LOL Thanks for your reply. I'm pleased to know you thought it was me (I mean it was I, I suppose). The truth is Pegasus was kind enough to show me his poem before he posted it, which inspired the reply, using the same imaginative approach he said inspired his. And he has seen it and told me to post it, which I refused to do unless he posted his, because it doesn't make any sense, and besides, I stole lines from him. He really deserves the credit, because after I saw his lovely poem, this practically wrote itself.
