A Sicilian Quintain

As the silk card arrived and she saw the rose,
A smile slowly appeared upon her face;
His secret message of love, that only she knows
Within the card so delicately edged with lace,
Connecting her heart to his, their love continually grows.

********
The silk post cards were sent by serviceman in WW1 to their wives and sweethearts. Because of censureship, letters arrived much disfigured. The silk postcard was sent instead..with an embroidered emblem that was known only to the person sending it and his loved one.

Oh...how I love these poems of true love. My parents were married for almost 55 years and they were so in love with each other every single day. This is so rare these days.Your poem to me, shows that love goes on.A simple gesture like a card means so much.
Thanks fo sharing this.

JB...a silk card was sent to me from someone in England that collects them. Mine has a red rose and leaves embroidered on it. A flap edged in silk and a little card inside the pocket. Very romantic. Thank you for your comment......Gloria

Twilah, this is so beautiful. What a nice way to share an old custom, and what a romantic one it was! You're one good poet lady.

Beautifully written and sooo romantic!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
