I was young when I first met him
the Dark Dog on his way
friends and family crying sad
for some loved one gone to stay

Often have I seen hin since
though he's never come yet for me
sometimes he's growled or bared his teeth
so i think and understanding we have reached

Can you hear him calling though?
that long and mournful howl?
the paws, his claws, and hackles raised
his sharp toothed vice-like jowls?

I've never had to feed him
his Master sees to that
despite how often he has eaten
the Dark Dog's never fat

He'll come for me one day
he'll also come for you
I hope its long before you meet him
and better me than you

(( In memory of Jimmy Michael Lombardo..
who brought the Dark Dog on himself..
I only met you once...
and I was the first to find you
I hope you have some peace now Jimmy ))

ahhh..Sol..such sadness and waste in the world..the dog comes for us all eventually it is true but he should never be invited in.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

I'd take it a step further than Pegasus and say you should not challenge him, either. I hope indeed he has found peace.

Yes...the Dark Dog...I know him well. This is a very sad yet touching portrait of your friends life, and it also serves as a warning to others. Carpe Diem! Gather ye rosebuds while ye may... Interesting work! I enjoyed the read!

Very creative, I like your style. Lots of truth in this. Some do invite the dark dog to their door, others he just turns up as a stray, with some are inocently walking down the street and he persues them. Some provoke his attack.. i could go on and on, I like your analogy. Makes you think..

Nicely done here..quite the sad poem. Something i'm not used to reading from you. A bit of a change, but a very good one. The serious side to Son....nicely done.
