Okay, I'm not (quite) this old (yet) *g*...  it's an experiment in style....

On Being Aged

youth leapt
out of my pores

flexibility took an oath
and turned brittle

vigor sang a lullaby
before snail-crawling
to another shell

only my mind remained
as usual
ponytail thoughts bouncing
on a weather-beaten trampoline

hope leafing through brochures
for the perfect finale

yikes! this is so true! i just had my 57th birthday! but I must say, since my mind refuses to go past 25, the rest of me is hanging in there, operative word "hanging"!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

OLD?
Silver in my hair, Gold in my teeth.
Stones in my kidneys, Lead in my feet.

Five friends greet me each day after I wake.
Arthur Ritis is always with me when I ache,
Will Power helps me out of my warm cot.
I go see John, to help me on the pot.
Then Charley Horse makes his point,
He takes me from joint to joint.
After a busy day with a lot of strife,
I say goodnight to Ben Gay. What a Life!

When the preacher visits,
he ask if I think of the Hereafter.
I say, Yes I do. Sometimes in the kitchen
I ask myself, What am I here, after?

Good read. I share your feeling.

I can't decide which of the images I find most apt, although I think I would have to say it is the vigor snail-crawling to another shell. It does help to have those pony-tail thoughts, but as you point out, the trampoline is still rather weather-beaten. And sometimes they just bounce right out of my head! You said a lot with a little here.
